Big Brother 28 Episode 14 Recap: Historic HOH Shakes Up the Game

There is nothing quite like a Big Brother blindside to turn a house full of cocky players into a house full of paranoid detectives. After Lyric’s shocking eviction, everyone is scrambling to figure out exactly who voted for her to go. There were only three votes to evict Melody, and nobody is willing to admit where their vote landed. Suddenly, trust is in short supply, alliances are looking a whole lot less solid, and everyone is wondering who might be playing them.

Kamu is especially rattled. He knows exactly how he voted, but he has no idea who he can trust anymore. After realizing that his own alliance may have turned on him, he is ready to go rogue and start playing for himself. And with the house in total chaos, there is only one thing everyone can agree on. They need the power.

So it is time for the Head of Household competition, and with Yash, Kamu and Chuk all unsure about where they stand, nobody feels particularly safe. And what better way to settle all of that than with the wall competition?

Angela is the first one out, dropping after just 28 seconds. Yes, you read that correctly. Twenty eight seconds. That is barely enough time to get comfortable.

From there, the competition starts taking its toll. Taylor drops at 34:03. Barrett is next at 46:24, followed by Devens at 48:53. Dee falls at 54:38. Melody is out at 1:04, Mallory follows at 1:13, and Yash drops at 1:16.

That leaves Drew, Kamu and Lala hanging on. Drew finally drops at 1:23 after putting together a seriously impressive effort. At that point, he is basically holding himself up with nothing but his arms, so credit where credit is due.

Now it is down to Kamu and Lala.

And suddenly, everyone is sweating the possibility of another Kamu Head of Household win. Lala and Kamu start talking about a deal. Lala asks Kamu not to put her on the block if he wins. But Taylor encourages Lala to keep fighting because she is on the verge of making Big Brother history as the oldest person ever to win this competition.

Then, just like that, Kamu slips. And Lala wins. At 58 years old, Lala becomes the new Head of Household.

And there are a lot of people celebrating. Not just because Lala managed to beat an MMA fighter in the wall competition, although that certainly does not hurt. The bigger reason for the excitement is that the house finally has a power shift. The same group that has controlled so much of the game is suddenly looking a little less comfortable.

Of course, there is still one problem. Nobody really knows what Lala is going to do. Her winning Head of Household is great news for anyone hoping to shake up the game, but Lala is also something of a wild card. Fortunately for several houseguests, she has Taylor in her corner to help her navigate the decision making process.

But before we find out who Lala wants to target, it is time to find out who won the latest BB Time Capsule vote. And that person is Mallory. Mallory gets to choose between a power and a punishment, and unfortunately for her, she ends up with the punishment. She receives the Adam and Eve punishment from Big Brother 16, which means she has to choose another houseguest to be tethered to while wearing fig leaves. And who does she choose? Melody.

Now it is finally time to figure out what Lala plans to do with her newfound power. Lala tells Taylor that she wants Devens out. In her mind, Devens is simply too dangerous to leave in the game. If he makes it to the end, she believes he has a very good chance of winning.

Taylor manages to talk Lala off Devens, though, and starts pushing her toward Haley instead. That puts Drew, Barrett and Kamu in Lala’s initial line of thinking, with the possibility of Haley being used as the replacement nominee later.

But while Lala is figuring out her plan, the paranoia surrounding the blindside vote is still running wild. Kamu and Yash believe each other, but neither of them is convinced that Chuk was the third vote. So the two of them start trying to get Taylor on board with the idea of putting Chuk on the block. Taylor takes the information to Lala and suggests that Chuk should go up instead of Kamu.

Then Kamu makes his own pitch. He goes to Lala and tells her that he is no longer working with the people he was working with before the blindside. He believes his entire alliance turned on him, and now he is ready to fight for Lala. Kamu tells her that putting Chuk and Haley on the block would be a legendary Head of Household move. He also claims that Chuk has already said he would put Lala on the block if he ever won Head of Household. That gives Lala even more to think about.

At this point, she decides she is not even interested in having a replacement nominee plan. Instead, she wants to put the “big dogs” on the block from the start.

So, it is finally time for the nomination ceremony. And Lala makes her move. She nominates Barrett, Haley and Chuk. And with that, she ends the ceremony with a simple message. “Game on, y’all.” Lala tells us afterward that Barrett is nothing more than a pawn. Haley is her actual target, with Chuk sitting in the backup position.

So Lala may have walked into the Head of Household competition as a wild card, but she is certainly not playing it safe. Though we have to wonder if she should really have decided to keep Kamu safe. We’ll see how it all plays out soon enough.
