Addicted to Joe, Terrified of the Truth

Olivia Bromley doesn’t sugarcoat it. In a candid interview with press at a recent Emmerdale event, the actress who plays Dawn Fletcher laid out exactly where her character’s head is at ahead of the biggest week of the year.

“From my perspective, Dawn should’ve chosen Billy all along, and I think everybody feels the same,” she said. “Because obviously Billy’s stable and so loving — he’s always loved her. He’s a wonderful dad. But Dawn didn’t choose him, and we don’t always choose the person who’s right for us.”

The reason Dawn keeps going back to Joe, even knowing what she knows? “She’s absolutely addicted to Joe and she just constantly chooses him, even though it’s not the right thing for her. And would I advise her differently? Yeah, but she doesn’t make the choices that I would make necessarily.”

The Morning of the Wedding — And the Plan to Run

Thanks to Caleb’s calculated lie, Dawn believes Joe was responsible for the brutal attack that left Billy fighting for his life with a brain bleed. That belief is the reason she’s agreed to flee the village with Billy and their children on the morning of her own wedding — abandoning everything, including Joe, whom she still loves.

And that morning, Bromley confirms, is going to be devastating. “She’s had this plan with Billy that they’re going to escape. I think she’s just terrified. She’s heartbroken. She doesn’t want to leave Joe — it’s leaving her whole life, leaving with the kids.”

All of that, built on a lie. Caleb told Dawn that Joe attacked Billy. The truth is that Kev Townsend was responsible — something Billy himself only just found out during a drunken confession at his stag do. Dawn doesn’t know yet.

“That Would Change Everything”

When asked what would happen if Dawn discovered the truth — that it wasn’t Joe who attacked Billy — Bromley’s response was immediate and unambiguous.

“Oh my goodness, I mean that would change everything. She doesn’t want to leave. I mean, she deeply loves this man.” She added: “If it wasn’t Joe, well, she wouldn’t make that choice at all. She wouldn’t leave with his child. She wouldn’t run away with her children, she wouldn’t leave Kim. So, yes, it changes everything for her.”

The truth is out there. Billy knows it. Caleb is desperately trying to keep it buried long enough for his revenge plan against Joe to play out on the wedding day. And Dawn is walking toward a decision — leave with Billy or stay — based entirely on a lie.
