Big Brother 28: How Will the Diamond Power of Veto Work?

Here we go. The stage is set and the fireworks are loaded. Just need to go over those last few details before we light the fuse for Rick Devens and his Diamond Power of Veto (DPOV) on Big Brother 28.

There has been so much talk about Devens using his power but I’ve also seen a lot of questions on just how this would work in practice so let’s run through the details of the power and how it gets put into action.

Devens won the DPOV in the Time Capsule twist back in the third week of the season and it is good for six weeks (not through the 6th week, but for an additional six weeks from then), so it still has a few more weeks and that was part of his challenge in agreeing to use it now and on someone that’s not himself, but anyways… This special Veto lets the holder remove one of the HOH’s noms (or renom) and name his own renom of choice. Very simple, mostly. Let’s run through how it will work today, assuming Devens does put it into play.

HGs will gather around on Monday afternoon for the Veto meeting. Yash is both the HOH and the Golden Veto holder this week, so he’s got a lot of power, but Rick has more this time. Yash has stated privately that he won’t use his Veto so he can keep his original Noms as they are now. Yash will announce that decision, place the medallion back in the box, and close it. At that point Rick will be able to raise his hand and stop the meeting from ending.

Rick stands up at this time and probably takes his own Diamond medallion out of his pocket, announcing things are not over just yet. He’ll explain what he has and probably toss in a Devens-joke or two. Then he will place the medallion necklace on Dee, she’ll take her seat back on the side couches, and Devens will have to do the hardest part: name a renom.

I saw it’s the hardest part because Devens has been kept safe by these HGs that he’s turning on and that’s tough to burn a bridge now that could have protected you later. Or maybe it was already at the end of the line and he’s making the first cut against them, but you never know from the inside. And remember, we know wayyy more than Rick does so it’s easier for us to say “use it!”

Devens is going to name Kamu as the renom to fill Dee’s seat and the game is on. Kamu will be shocked. Yash will be pissed. Even most of the new Mosh Pit alliance will be surprised.

Kamu will have just one shot at safety with the Block Buster and if he gets to escape the Block then that means Haley will still be up against Angela and she will go home over Angela. But if Kamu can’t win the BBBB then you can expect him to go and Haley will have to stay to have her seventh straight “really hard week.”
