Host Julie Chen Moonves has officially confirmed that the BB Blockbuster is coming back, reviving one of the most unpredictable elements the game has seen in recent years.
The format first appeared during BB26, where it debuted as the “AI Arena” during the first live eviction. By BB27, the concept had been rebranded as BB Blockbuster — and now, for BB28, the name and the chaos are here to stay.

What exactly is the BB Blockbuster?
Every week, three nominees sit on the chopping block. They can still fight for safety in the Veto Competition, but nobody wants to go into eviction night without protection.
On Thursday’s live eviction episode, those three nominees face one more lifeline: the BB Blockbuster challenge. One player wins safety and escapes the block entirely.
That leaves the final two nominees exposed, with one of them heading out the door. It’s the kind of late-game shake-up that makes Thursday nights more tense, less predictable, and far more dangerous for anyone trying to map out the vote ahead of time.

When will the first BB Blockbuster hit Big Brother 28?
Fans will likely see the first BB Blockbuster during the Thursday, July 16 episode, which is expected to serve as the season’s first eviction night after the premiere on Thursday, July 9.
Still, this is Big Brother, and the show loves to keep its cards close to the chest. Since the season is only just getting started, anything could happen before the first live eviction arrives.
