Big Brother 28 Spoilers: Drew Waffles on Nominations While Barrett and Melody Have a Tense Heart to Heart
Sunday in the house was mostly a long stretch of pool time and nomination hand-wringing, with Drew stuck holding the HOH and trying to figure out who he’s willing to make an enemy of before Monday’s veto meeting. Coming out of Thursday’s noms, Lala, Taylor and Yash are on the block, but Yash pulled off the veto, which means Drew has to name a replacement nominee, and the entire house has spent the day lobbying him from every direction.
Devens spent the morning doing the classic Big Brother two-step, telling anyone who would listen that he wants Melody to go up while insisting he’s staying hands off so it doesn’t look like he’s pushing. He told Dee flat out that he’s made his preference to Drew clear and can’t push harder without it looking bad, but that she and Angela are free to keep the pressure on. Angela, for her part, spent breakfast quietly telling Devens she doesn’t want him going up as the renom, and Devens admitted to her afterward that he’s genuinely nervous about it, though he said he won’t fight Drew too hard about it because it would make him look like he doesn’t trust him. Lala used the morning to make her own move, cornering Devens in the kitchen to tell him she wants to step into the spot Haley left behind in their group and work with him going forward, and later told Barrett the same thing, framing it as loyalty rather than a betrayal since Devens is about to be the target anyway.
Drew, meanwhile, spent a good chunk of the day talking in circles to whoever was in the HOH room with him. He told Devens repeatedly that he doesn’t want to put Barrett up because it would push him to the other side, and that he still believes he and Barrett can compete with the returning players in comps down the line. He also admitted he genuinely doesn’t know where Melody stands with him anymore, noting that she gives him grief constantly while somehow never doing the same to Barrett. By early afternoon he’d landed on the math problem at the center of his dilemma: putting Melody up puts him four votes in the hole, which is not, in his words, a way to win. Devens kept pushing the idea anyway, telling Drew the whole alliance wants her out, but Drew kept redirecting, saying he’d rather someone else take the shot at her.

The Melody conversation finally happened in the late afternoon, and it was about as smooth as a plate of gravel. Drew brought her up to talk nominations, and her responses were mostly one-liners delivered like she already knew where this was going, telling him at one point “you’re not going to like my answer” when he asked who he should put up. By early evening, Drew, Barrett and Devens huddled to hash out the actual plan, and it became clear Melody is safe. Barrett is now the likely replacement nominee, sitting there next to Devens as the two most probable options.
The feeds went down around 6 PM for what seemed to be some type of midway party, which finally allowed us to watch the medieval-themed elimination twist that has been looming over the house since Thursday. For those catching up, the setup involved four safety competitions, each winner earning protection for themselves plus the ability to save one other person and send two houseguests into a head-to-head elimination match. Dee won the first round and used it to secure Devens’ safety alongside her own. The chain continued through Drew, who won his matchup and chose to save Angela while sending Barrett out, and finally Barrett, who won his round and got to send two people out to face off against Haley in the last matchup. He chose Yash and Lala, protecting Melody and Taylor in the process, which was not what Dee and Devens wanted, since they’d hoped Taylor would be the one sent out instead. Yash ultimately won the final showdown, meaning Haley is out of the house, evicted via the competition twist rather than a vote, before jury.

The episode ended on a cliffhanger without confirming which of Yash or Lala Barrett had actually chosen to face Haley in real time (but I’m 95% sure Yash went out), and CBS split the rest of the twist, along with the HOH competition, nominations, Zingbot and veto, into Wednesday’s episode instead. Feeds stayed down well into the evening afterward, with viewers speculating it was either a belated halfway or jury party for the house, and as of writing this, nothing was confirmed, but feeds returned to everyone having a big pool party. Inside the house, the practical result is that Haley is gone, the six-person original alliance the house has been calling the icons is down to five, and Devens is now the presumptive renom target heading into Monday’s veto meeting, with Barrett sitting as the other realistic option depending on how much nerve Drew actually has when it counts.
