“Survivor” winner Tina Wesson wants to see a season of people all voted out first

Tina Wesson has been to the Survivor mountaintop. And not only did she win Survivor, but she did it on the most-watched season ever (The Australian Outback). Not only that, but Tina is the only player to ever win a 42-day season, making her the ultimate outlaster.

But Tina also has been on the other, less celebrated extreme of the Survivor spectrum. That is due to her being voted out first during her second appearance on Survivor: All-Stars, when she was immediately targeted as a former winner.

Perhaps it was that experience on the bottom that led Tina to her answer when Entertainment Weekly asked the reality television legend what former player she would like to see back on the island. Because Tina did not reply with a single contestant, but rather an entire group of them. And a group that would be looking to reverse the curse… as it were, in Ghost Island parlance.

“I don’t think I have one person that I’d like to see come back,” Tina tells EW. “I think what I would like for a future season is the people who were first voted off.”

Having a season with all-first boots is something that fans have floated for well over a decade at this point. While it would certainly make for a great marketing hook, the fear for a long time from producers is that there were not actually enough good players and personalities to make it work. But now, with 50 seasons worth of first boots to pick from, could the time finally be right?

However, Tina’s suggestion comes more from the heart than the head.

“I feel like we all have this desire to play the game, right?” she explains. “And we go through all the hoops that we have to do to get on the show. And the people who are first off, my heart breaks for them, because it’s not fair. I’m still all about fair, and I just want to see a season where they all get a chance to come back and really play the game.”

We’ve certainly seen players in the past who had a very tough first few days on the island (like John Cochran, Nick Wilson, and Aubry Bracco) settle in to eventually become champions. Who’s to say there is not another first boot ready to break out? Plus, Tina — who returned a third time on the Blood vs. Water season and made it all the way to fourth place — knows the sting of being the first one to get snuffed.

“I had my chances, so I’m okay with that,” she says of her first-one-out experience. “But [it’s about] the people who really, I don’t feel like got a fair shake, or they got a fair shake, but they were first off. So I want them all to come back.”

Another thing Tina wants? For the show to go back to a longer filming schedule. “Go back to 42 [days],” she says. “39, 42. I don’t think what they do is legit.”
