Exclusive: Coronation Street star reveals Rovers ambition as surprise Brian plot begins
Coronation Street star Peter Gunn has revealed how he would feel about his character Brian Packham taking up residence in the Rovers Return pub, as a surprising romance plot between Brian and current landlady Maggie Driscoll is about to begin.
In scenes airing next week, Brian will be caught by the Driscoll family coming downstairs after a sneaky night of passion with matriarch Maggie.
Although Brian then seeks advice from Eva Price on how to win Maggie’s heart, Maggie deems their one-night stand disappointing and vows that it won’t be repeated, which Brian is gutted to overhear. However, when Maggie realises the effect of her words, she plans to apologise to Brian…
ITVWhile speaking to Inside Soap, Peter was asked whether fans could see Brian living in the Rovers in future if all goes well with Maggie.
“Don’t be dangling that carrot in front of me – that’s too much!” he laughs. “I can pull a pint, that’s all I’m saying.
“The Rovers is the top of the tree, everything revolves around it. As an actor I couldn’t quite imagine myself there – that’d be scary! It’s legendary. My first scene in the Rovers I had to sing a duet with Julie, and I was so nervous!”
Despite having hopes of working in the Rovers some day, Peter emphasises that he loves Brian’s current role of running The Kabin newsagents alongside Rita Tanner.

“I absolutely love working in the Kabin because there’s always a bit of tittle tattle that goes on there, and also working with Rita is incredible,” he enthuses. “I said to someone recently, where else do you work with people who are in their 90s like Barbara Knox [Rita] or Bill Roache [Ken]?
“I did a scene with Bill a couple of weeks ago and he told me about how he went skydiving a few years ago. I mean, it’s unbelievable!”
