Emmerdale confirms huge new Charity and Dr Todd scene

BOMBSHELL REUNION: Emmerdale Star Confirms Charity Dingle Will Come Face to Face With Dr Todd — and the Scene Will "Shock" Everyone

The Confrontation Emmerdale Fans Have Been Waiting For

For months, Charity Dingle has been carrying something unbearable. Dr Caitlin Todd blackmailed her, sexually assaulted her, and then walked away without facing any legal consequences. Todd has been living away from the village — but she’s not gone. And a recent flash-forward confirmed what viewers already suspected: this story isn’t over.

Now Emma Atkins has confirmed the reunion is coming. And by the sound of it, it’s going to be one of Emmerdale’s most powerful scenes in years.

What Emma Atkins Has Revealed

“There’s a moment which I can’t really talk about too much,” Atkins said. “But she comes face to face with Todd. And there’s just this brilliant, pivotal moment where Charity almost puts it to rest to Todd’s face.”

She continued: “And just also she just finds peace, even though she knows maybe legally, she won’t get it.”

The detail about legal justice is important. Todd was never charged for what she did to Charity. The system failed her. What’s coming isn’t a courtroom — it’s something more personal and arguably more significant. Charity finding a way to reach a version of peace on her own terms, in Todd’s presence, is the kind of scene that soap opera does at its best.

Forgiveness Without Excusing

Atkins described the emotional complexity with remarkable clarity. She talked about a very specific kind of forgiveness — not absolution, not acceptance of what happened, but an internal letting go that Charity reaches within herself.

“Have you ever had that thing where you almost forgive?” she asked, unpacking the nuance of the scene. “She finds some form of forgiveness towards Todd that she’s reached within her own mind, her own capacity, forgiveness. And that’s a hard thing to do when you’ve been violated in that way.”

The path to that moment runs through a critical scene with Mack. Charity has finally had enough of being “threatened and blackmailed by Todd,” and she decides to come clean about what happened.

“She’s kept it all in, and then finally, she’s like, enough is enough,” Atkins said. “And it’s when she comes back from the lake that that journey starts unveiling the truth to Mack, and then we’ll see what she decides to do with the rest of the secret that she’s holding.”

The Showdown the Audience Has Earned

Atkins was passionate about the importance of letting audiences see the confrontation properly — not hinted at, not cut short, but played out fully.

“I think the audience need to see that showdown,” she said. “And I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s absolutely brilliant. It was written so well and Caroline played it so fantastically and it was a very special day of filming for us both.”

She described the outcome as something involving “some kind of retribution and justice in its own way” — careful words that hint at resolution without spoiling the specifics. What we know is that it won’t leave viewers unsatisfied.

“I think the audience will be blown away with the outcome, really, and shocked, and there’s some kind of retribution and justice in its own way, and you’ll see that moving forward. But yeah, every part of that was needed and necessary for the journey. And I think the audience will be pleased.”

For everyone who has watched Charity carry this alone for so long, that promise is everything.
