Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has been seen paying a moving tribute to one of his former co-stars after their death was announced last week.
The actor, who is best known for playing George Shuttleworth in the ITV soap, took to Instagram after it was confirmed that Oscar-winning Home Alone 2: Lost In New York and My Left Foot actress Brenda Fricker had died, aged 81.
Her death was confirmed on Friday (July 17) by her agent Phil Belfield, who described the Irish actress as a “legend” whom he was “honoured to know”.

Mr Belfield’s statement read: “It is with much sadness that I share the news that beloved actress Brenda Fricker passed away last night peacefully after a period of ill health, at the age of 81. Dublin-born and bred, Brenda Fricker undoubtedly deserves the title legend…
“We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her. I was honoured to know, love and work with her and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world over.”

Fricker won a best supporting actress Oscar for her performance as Bridget Fagan Brown in 1989’s My Left Foot, which tells the story of an Irish man named Christy Brown who was born with cerebral palsy and could control only his left foot.
Following the sad news of her passing, Tony took to Instagram to pay tribute to Fricker. He posted a picture of the pair, revealing how they worked together back in 2001.
Alongside the selfie, he penned on his page: “Farewell beautiful Brenda Fricker. What an absolute hoot she was. We spent the summer of 2001 together making the film, THE INTENDED, playing mother & son out in the jungle in Borneo. We became great friends and had the best time, despite being bitten to death by mosquitoes and chased by snakes. A funny funny lady. RIP Bren. You’ll be so missed [heart emoji].”
And the comments soon came flooding in. @david.aitken1967 said: “Great picture of you both.” @average_guy_entertainments commented: “It’s nice to know she was as lovely as she seemed. Such a talented, wonderful actress amd a seemingly wonderful person.” @zebedee21_tracey_ replied: “This was such sad news. Great actres.”
