Big Brother 28 Spoilers: Lyric Evicted in 8-3 Vote After Stunning House Flip

For much of the week, Lyric did not appear to be the person most likely to leave. Head of Household Haley Thogmartin had entered the eviction cycle with her sights primarily set on Drew Campbell, but by the time the live vote arrived, the house had quietly moved in a completely different direction.

How Lyric Ended Up on the Block

Haley began Week 4 by nominating Taylor Brown, Drew Campbell and Melody Morris for eviction.

The week changed when Taylor won the Power of Veto and used it to remove herself from the block. Haley then selected Lyric Medeiros as the replacement nominee, leaving Drew, Melody and Lyric as the three houseguests facing Thursday night’s BB Block Buster.

Lyric had already been having a difficult week. Her attempts to reposition herself in the house after Rome Seymour’s earlier eviction had caused several houseguests to question her loyalty. Haley ultimately decided to put her on the block after becoming increasingly frustrated with Lyric’s gameplay.

Even then, Lyric appeared to have a path to safety.

Drew was considered Haley’s primary target, while Melody was widely viewed as the likely backup option if Drew managed to escape eviction.

But that plan would not survive Thursday.

The Vote Begins to Flip

In the final hours before the eviction, Dee Valladares and Rick Devens began reconsidering whether getting rid of Drew was actually best for their games.

Their reasoning was simple: Drew remained a major target for other players and could potentially be used to take shots at Haley, Chuk and Kamu. Keeping him could therefore provide protection for Dee, Devens and Angela while creating problems elsewhere in the house.

The discussions eventually grew into something bigger.

Instead of simply trying to save Drew, a new plan developed to evict Lyric over Melody if Drew managed to win the BB Block Buster.

That meant Thursday night’s competition suddenly became crucial.

Drew Wins the BB Block Buster

Drew delivered when he needed it most.

The three nominees competed in a jigsaw puzzle-style BB Block Buster competition, and Drew won, immediately removing himself from the block and guaranteeing his safety for another week.

Drew’s victory left only Lyric and Melody facing the eviction vote.

Under the original plan, Melody might have expected to leave.

Instead, the vote flip was already in motion.

The Votes Come In Against Lyric

One by one, the houseguests entered the Diary Room to cast their votes.

The votes to evict Lyric came from:

Barrett, Taylor, LaTrice, Drew, Devens, Mallory, Dee and Angela.

Meanwhile, Kamu, Yash and Chuk voted to evict Melody.

That produced the final result:

Lyric was evicted by a vote of 8-3.

The outcome was especially significant because several people connected to Haley’s side of the house had participated in the flip without fully informing her.

Haley appeared stunned as the votes against Lyric continued to pile up. What had begun as her HOH week with Drew positioned as the main target ended with Lyric walking out the door instead.

Haley Gets Blindsided During Her Own HOH

Lyric’s eviction may ultimately be remembered as much for Haley’s blindside as for Lyric leaving the game.

An 8-3 vote showed that the decision was not the work of just one or two rogue players. A sizable new majority had formed around the plan to remove Lyric.

More importantly, the vote exposed cracks within alliances that had controlled much of the early game.

Dee and Devens had been working with Haley, Chuk and Kamu through the Red Corner group, yet they were willing to move against Haley’s preferred outcome when they believed keeping Drew and Melody better served their individual games.

Angela also joined the move, while Barrett, Taylor, LaTrice and Mallory helped provide more than enough votes to send Lyric home.

With only Chuk, Kamu and Yash voting to keep Lyric, the lines inside the house became much clearer once Julie Chen Moonves announced the result.

Lyric Reacts to Her Eviction

After leaving the house, Lyric spoke with Julie about her experience and appeared to quickly understand where some of the votes had landed.

She correctly identified Kamu, Chuk and Yash as the three houseguests who had voted to keep her.

Her eviction brought an end to a turbulent few weeks that included her showmance with Rome, his eviction, attempts to rebuild her position in the game and ultimately her placement on the block for a third consecutive week.

Lyric entered Thursday believing there were larger targets sitting beside her.

She wasn’t wrong.

But Big Brother is often decided by timing, and the house’s priorities changed at exactly the wrong moment for her.

The Eviction Could Reshape Big Brother 28

Lyric’s departure was more than another elimination.

It was the first major indication that some of the season’s strongest alliances may no longer be willing to vote together simply for the sake of maintaining unity.

Drew survived what once appeared to be an extremely dangerous week.

Melody survived despite remaining on the block after the Block Buster.

Dee and Devens demonstrated that they are willing to make moves based on their own interests.

And Haley finished her HOH with far less control over the house than she appeared to have at the beginning of the week.

With Lyric now gone, the fallout from the 8-3 blindside could prove even more important than the eviction itself.

The question heading into the next round of Big Brother 28 is no longer simply who will be targeted next.

It’s who can still trust whom?
