Big Brother 28 – Slow Locked In Tuesday For The House

The house woke up Tuesday to a closed backyard, a mystery construction project, and Angela immediately floating a theory that production is building a Survivor set, sand and all, which tells you everything about how this cast’s brains are wired at this point. Her paranoia about “those 4 or 5” staying up late the night before got a rerun airing to both Thog and Devens before breakfast was even a conversation, which is less a theory than a nervous tic at this point.

Thog spent a chunk of the morning doing what Thog does, which is gossip with Dee about absolutely everyone in structured, almost administrative detail. They ran through hypothetical vote plans for next week (Lala, Mallory, and Yash if Taylor goes, with a cover story fed to Yash about “an eye for an eye”), litigated whether Drew and Melody have “fallen off” as a showmance, and settled into a long, oddly tender bit where they assigned everyone in the house a dog breed. Barrett got mastiff or Great Dane depending on who you ask, Drew got yappy terrier, Yash got German Shepherd, and Lala got “bougie dog,” which is the kind of insult that only works if you also love the person, so, fine. In between the emotional labor of canine casting, Thog also groused about the trash can, which by mid-morning had become a genuine house crisis, overflowing to the point that garbage was reportedly bouncing back out when people tried to add more to it. It did eventually get emptied, though the towel situation, whatever that entailed, apparently persisted.

Elsewhere the day ambled along at a pace best described as Tuesday. Barrett and Devens had a long, meandering Breaking Bad conversation that somehow produced a plan for bacon on Day 50, and Barrett asked, unprompted, if anyone in the house knew someone who’d been exposed to rabies, a sentence that deserved more follow-up than it got. Drew and Melody had a lazy midday hang in the pod room where she recapped a dream involving a run down two bedroom house full of pictures of people who were supposedly them but didn’t look like them, which is either a metaphor for this season or just a dream.

The block conversations started in earnest once Mallory and Barrett’s morning nerves kicked in. Mallory, sitting on the block next to Drew, spent much of the late morning fixating on whether Dee would come get her for a promised one on one talk, growing increasingly agitated when Taylor got summoned to the HOH room first. Barrett tried to talk her down, pointing out that Dee hadn’t answered a knock either, but Mallory wasn’t having it. Taylor, for her part, used her HOH time efficiently, telling Dee that the four person alliance of Barrett, Drew, Mallory and Melody can’t realistically make it to the end together, and that two of its members have already said they won’t vote for Dee. Dee took the information in but wouldn’t commit to a preference between Drew and Mallory going, telling Taylor she’s wary of saying either name out loud in case that person comes back into the house later.

Taylor also worked the numbers directly with Mallory, asking for her vote if she ends up on the block against Drew, and Mallory said yes, but was cagier about being anyone’s guaranteed fourth vote, telling Taylor she’d rather be a fifth vote once the outcome was already decided than stick her neck out first. Taylor found this a little rich given the stakes, telling her it was “crazy” not to vote how you actually want to vote this late in the game. When Taylor relayed this exchange back to Lala in the HOH room, her version came out garbled enough that even Dee said flatly it didn’t make sense, so consider that particular retelling unreliable.

Devens, meanwhile, was doing quiet architecture work on the other side of the house, telling Barrett that evicting Drew is not something he’s willing to entertain, while also fretting that he doesn’t actually know where Taylor or Mallory stand with him personally. He and Barrett spent a chunk of early afternoon speculating about jury size and Devens floated, more than once, that Mallory winning is scarier long term than Taylor winning, warning that “FAP as a four is scary.” Barrett agreed the real order of business is just surviving to five, whoever that ends up being.

By mid afternoon the conversation had shifted from theory to actual planning, and Dee and Devens quietly decided to blow the whole thing up. In the HOH room, Devens told Dee flatly that Melody and Mallory are burned and not really on their side anymore, and that keeping either of them around longer just delays an inevitable break. Dee agreed but was queasy about blindsiding Barrett and Drew specifically, since she doesn’t want to be the one who torches that relationship without warning. Devens’s counter was that he’s been laying groundwork with the guys for a while now to prepare them for the idea that Melody and Mallory eventually have to go, and suggested a fuller sit-down with Dee, Devens, Angela, Drew and Barrett to walk it through together. The tension came to a head when Dee spotted Drew on the HOH camera feed pointing at her photo on the memory wall, which she read as evidence a blindside plot against her is already brewing on the other side, prompting a blunt “f**k yeah, let’s blindside them” from her. Devens, working the room, reminded her more than once how upset Barrett and Drew actually are about the Mallory nomination, to which Dee’s response was an equally blunt admission that she knows and doesn’t especially care.

Yash spent this same stretch doing what Yash has been doing most weeks, which is inserting himself into every conversation with a plausible-sounding argument for every side. He told Angela he’ll do whatever the “icons” want this week, then went upstairs and told Dee and Devens directly that keeping all four members of the Barrett/Drew/Mallory/Melody group intact through jury is dangerous, arguing for Drew to be the one to go since his elimination would supposedly cause the least blowback. He also, separately, told Mallory he wants her to stay over Taylor because she can win competitions and come after the vets, which puts him on record saying opposite things to opposite audiences within the same afternoon, an approach that is either genius or going to catch up with him depending who you ask. Dee and Devens spent real time debating his pitch, with Devens at one point flipping Yash’s own logic back around, arguing that if nobody trusts Drew anyway, that’s actually a reason to keep him rather than remove him. No firm decision had been locked by the time Drew and Thog wandered into the HOH room and everyone smoothly changed the subject to nothing at all.

The afternoon also produced a competition outfit fitting for Drew, some enthusiastic but confused group efforts to reconstruct the rules of mancala using M&Ms (Taylor, notably, was the only one who remembered the setup correctly), and a stretch where Drew fell asleep on the HOH floor so completely that Big Brother had to call his name over the loudspeaker twice, “no napping, pretty please,” to get him up.

Mallory, still on the block, spent early evening venting to Melody in the gym, annoyed that Lala had been psyching herself up in the bathroom mirror before the veto ceremony while Mallory herself is the one actually facing eviction. She brought up, more than once, a TikTok she’d apparently seen before entering the house warning contestants never to throw a competition, a piece of advice she then did not follow when she threw the HOH earlier this season, a detail she seems fully aware of and is choosing to sit with rather than learn from. Melody tried to reassure her that she has the votes regardless, counting herself, Barrett, Yash and Haley in Mallory’s corner, with Lala a maybe depending on which way the “icons” break.

As the group settled into the HOH room for the evening, Mallory disappeared to construct one of her have not mug creations, this time protein powder and ketchup, which Yash and Taylor watched unfold on the spy screen with the specific horror of people witnessing a crime they can’t stop. Yash narrated the seasoning process like a nature documentary. Taylor called the concept “disgusting” and could not look away. It was, by a wide margin, the most engaged anyone looked all day.

The evening closed out with lighter chatter in the HOH room, Angela relitigating her own nickname origin story (crazy eyes from an Orange Is the New Black rewatch before the season, twit from Matilda), a debate about whether her secondhand Nordstrom pajamas from eBay were, as Taylor gently suggested, possibly stolen goods, and Devens doing a Gru impression that nobody had asked for. Drew, for his part, spent part of the evening telling Mallory her best strategy in the upcoming Blockbuster comp is to physically block or tackle Taylor, comments that didn’t sit well with a number of people watching along, though nothing beyond commentary has come of it inside the house. Where the vote actually lands Thursday is still very much unsettled: the vets believe they have the numbers locked to save Mallory over Taylor, but Dee and Devens spent the whole day quietly building toward blindsiding Barrett and Drew instead, and by evening nobody outside that HOH room seemed to have the real math right.
