Big Brother 28-Sunday Recap for 8/16/26
Once again, the vets want to blow everything up. I’ve been calling it survivor brain because Dee and Devens (mainly Dee) still want to play the game as if someone is leaving today and they don’t ever have to see them again. They also still seem to think gathering a group for 1 vote, moving on, and repeating it the next week is the way to play BB. I don’t even think it’s a matter of being disloyal. The idea of a group of people sticking together till the end in Survivor is the exception, not the rule. Survivor brain.
Devens was moving like Dee the first weeks of the game but he’s adapted to BB a bit better than Dee in my opinion. Devens was there for a good time but at a certain point, he started to realize he could go pretty far and something shifted. It’s as if he realized somewhere along the way, he could play to win instead of playing for fun. This is the reason he’s gone back and forth over the weekend about using his power. He definitely wants to save Dee but he’s had moments of thinking it might be better if he saved it.
I saw tons of ‘think pieces’ written over the weekend on whether it’s a good move or not. I feel like most of them were written from the perspective of whoever they were rooting for in the game. I have a couple of people I’m rooting against but no one I’m specifically rooting for to win. Let’s look at both of the powers in play more objectively.
I do think it was a good idea for Dee to try to use her power this week. (as crappy as it is of a power) Before I get into it, I’m not trying to claim it’s very good or she could have done much with it anyway. However, I do think she could’ve used it in a better way. The first thing I think Dee could have done was better preparation. She hasn’t put any time into this fake wolf pack alliance. If she had, I think she could’ve pulled off a different move easier.

Dee doesn’t have a very good power so I think she should have used it offensively instead of defensively. If she’d put in more time to have a closer relationship with Yash, she’d have had a better chance for it to work. If you remember, when she flipped the vote to save Haley, she told Kamu they should leave Yash out of it. (Obviously, this vote didn’t happen because Haley won the Blockbuster so it wasn’t necessary) Kamu went straight to Yash and told him Dee didn’t include him.
If Dee had gotten ahead of the situation and played offense, she could’ve acted like she assumed she was safe with Yash because they’re working together. She could have been fake excited he was the HOH and celebrated the win with him. (Its what Kamu and Drew did) After that, she could have given him some fake b******t story about how she needed to use the power anyway and mention how it wasn’t a very good power. At that point, she could have offered it to Yash to not nominate her this week almost as a joke. I think in her situation, it was better for her to pump Yash up and assume she wasn’t going up in order to get him to rethink the decision.
It would’ve basically been her saying ‘hey I know you’re not going to put me up anyway so this is kind of stupid but I want you to have the money. I’ll bribe you, you accept it for me to not go on the block and then we’ll figure out who the wolfpack should target.’ I’m not saying it would have worked but I think it had a better chance of working than what she did. What Dee did said ‘our alliance isn’t real and I’m scared you’re going to put me on the block.’
As for Devens, that one is more complicated. If Devens actually had the working connections with Kamu and Yash he thinks he has, I don’t think he should use it. Here’s the first problem, he doesn’t have those relationships because they’ve already turned against him. He just doesn’t know it. I definitely think he should use it if they’re worried they don’t have the votes to keep Dee. (They do as long as Mallory and Melody stick with them)
Of course, it’s always better to keep the power and use it for yourself. The one thing that overrides that in my opinion is risking Dee leaving. Dee is extremely important to Devens game and the most loyal person he has in there. I think people underestimate the value of have someone in there you can trust completely. If there’s any risk of her leaving, he absolutely should use the dpov.
Mallory would rather Dee leave over Angela. (This is assuming noms stay the same and Haley wins the Blockbuster. The vote would be Dee vs Angela) This is getring into the things that we know but they don’t know. Sure, there’s a chance Melody, Drew and Barrett could change Mallory’s mind and get her to keep Dee over Angela. Mallorys #1 target is Kamu and has been for a long time. It’s ironic because Devens using the dpov and putting Kamu on the block is what will guarantee they have Mallory’s vote. (If he doesn’t win the blockbuster)
I think it boils down to whether or not the vets need the insurance policy and if they’re willing to lose Angela this week. Since FAP and Crossovers came together last night to form the Moshpit alliance, they have the votes anyway to keep Dee as long as Mallory gives in and I think she would. If Haley won the blockbuster, they’d have to cut Angela loose though.
We know Devens needs to take a shot at Kamu but he doesn’t know it yet. It’s why I can understand that Devens kept going back and forth on the decision. If Dee had put more time in with Melody and Mallory a long time ago, it would be an easy decision. Keep the power and save it for next week.
Dee’s spent enough time with Melody the past couple of days to turn her around more than she has Mallory. I think if Dee had been doing this sooner and with both Melody and Mallory, they could save the power. That’s not the case and it’s still a little shaky so it probably is the best move to go ahead and use it.
Now let’s take a look at the decision making from the other side of the house. I spent all weekend watching Yash, Taylor and Kamu circle around the perfect plan but unable to get there. It actually became comical a few times. Once Kamu put in enough work to change Yash’s mind and make Dee the target, they kept trying to figure out the best way to keep Haley safe and have Dee leave.
Let’s think, Yash won the veto, wants to make sure Haley doesn’t leave and wants to work with her now. If only there was some way or something they could do to keep Haley from being evicted. What could that be? USE THE VETO ON HALEY!!!
I don’t know what in the hell they were thinking all weekend. There was a brief moment when I thought Kamu had it figured out. Kamu suggested maybe Yash should use the veto on…..Angela! I mean come on, this isn’t a complicated decision. They put somebody on the block, later decided to team up with them and know people will vote them out. Just take Haley off the block and replace her with someone from the other side. Not only do you guarantee Haley is safe, you also take away one of the votes the other side has this week.
This is easily or at least should be, the easiest decision of the season so far. This also has nothing to do with Devens having a power. They’re sure he has one but they don’t know what it does and I understand. Taking Haley off the block should be their move regardless of any powers or what they power does.
As for the Moshpit alliance, I don’t think its a bad plan for Mallory and Melody. Sure, Drew and Barrett may or may not be more loyal to the Crossovers than FAP. For this week, it doesn’t matter. If you look at the comp wins or who’s come close to winning, the Kamu side needs to take some hits. The best competitors in the house are Kamu, Yash and Haley. That group has got to take a hit for Melody and Mallory to have a chance. They’re even better positioned after Devens targets Kamu and Yash today. For the first time, FAP may actually be in the middle. Kamu and Yash vs Dee and Devens potentially leaves them sitting in a good spot.
Drew told Melody he feels good about competing against the vets at the end if they can get out the better competitors. He’s also told Dee, Devens and Angela he wants the 5 Crossovers to try and get to the end. This basically tells us, we don’t know anything about what Drew and Barrett actually plan to do.
I know Drew and Barrett have taken a lot of heat online for sticking with the vets this season. Personally, I don’t think that’s been a mistake as long as they’re actually working on their exit plan. They’re the super fans and they were smart enough to know the vets were likely to get the powers and it’s usually good to stick close to them in the beginning.
This hasn’t been much of a Sunday recap but more of a strategy talk. I thought it may be more fun to take a look at optimal game moves this week and Steve gave me the opportunity since there wasn’t much recapping needed today. These players keep blowing up or at least trying to blow up the house every week. It will probably happen again today so heading into it, let’s go over where they all seem to be before the veto ceremony.
Dee is planning to go off on Kamu I really don’t understand it. (Survivor brain) Sure, it will be fun for us but I’m not seeing what she gets out of it. In a way, she doesn’t have much to lose since Kamu decided to go against her anyway. I also don’t think it’s going to land the way she thinks because I think Kamu will stay calm for all of it. Of course there’s always a chance he won’t because he’s definitely not planning on being on the block today.
Angela did a much better job than Dee when she went otb. I’m guessing she learned from her last season because she stayed calm and told Yash she didn’t hold it against him and so on. She was on her way to being the one vet everyone was okay keeping. Apparently, she’s planning on ruining that today by going off on Yash at the veto ceremony. Like Dee, I don’t see the need for it. She needs to be more focused on juggling her relationships with Haley and Lala. (Mostly Lala because Haley isn’t really over her issues with Angela)
Haley didn’t suggest the veto be used on her and that blew my mind. She went from being the house target to being back in an alliance again. She’s not a good enough player to point out that her coming off the block would give them an extra vote. (Yash and Kamu keep saying if the have Drew, they’re good. If Haley wasn’t on the block, they wouldn’t need Drew’s vote) I fault them all for not realizing this but especially Haley because she’s the one who has her ass sitting on the block.
Yash has made it clear he only wants to work with the bros. However, he does a pretty good job with Lala, Taylor and Haley to convince them otherwise. I think the Bro thing is his blind spot this week. I don’t know why he moved off Melody being a renom this week but he did. He got tunnel vision and decided his renom would have to be Barrett. Because he doesn’t want to put any bros on the block, (even the ones he wants to target) he decided he couldn’t use the veto. I think this is what kept him from realizing the obvious way to have the votes to take out Dee.
Kamu is the real hoh this week, just like last week. Dee was only supposed to be a pawn for Yash because he saw her as expendable. Yash really didn’t plan to target her at all though until Kamu got in his head. It was probably going to happen anyway but Haley staying and sharing all the info that Dee and mostly Angela gave her with Kamu, ended Dee and Kamu working together. Kamu also has Taylor and Lala completely on his side.
Taylor is the runner up to Kamu. If Kamu’s been the president of running both Lala and Yash’s HOH’s, Taylor’s definitely the vice president. She’s the main reason the vets started becoming targets last week and she’s the reason Barrett’s becoming a target too. She definitely has blind spots in the game and seems to ignore info she doesn’t want to be true. I have to give her credit for the work she’s done with Haley this week. These two couldnt stand each other and now they’re working together. She completely threw Lala under the bus Thursday night after Haley stayed and now she’s the new Angela. (She’s trying to balance relationships between Haley and Lala)
Lala has been in her own world this week but what else is new? Sure, she made the Covenant (I can’t remember if that’s the name or not) alliance with Kamu and I guess that’s something. Unless Kamu plans to take her to the end and sees her as someone easy to beat, I think she’s expendable to everyone. The most interesting thing about her game is how she’s found herself working on the same side as Haley while not wanting anything to do with Haley. Taylor, Kamu and Yash have said she needs to lay low, shut up and just cook and clean. She still complaining about Haley because Taylor said she told Lala that if she didn’t shut up about it she was going to put her on the block herself. (This will be another week where she’s just told how to vote. She may not do it thi if it’s Haley against Angela)
Devens will be making himself a bigger target after the veto ceremony today. That’s not great but it’s actually not as bad as it would’ve been last week. Kamu and Yash have already decided that don’t trust him anymore so he’s really not losing that much. If Dee and Angela go off on people today, I think he could go back to being the vet who is least likely to leave. (Maybe)
Barrett is starting to fall into that terrible position of being seen as a comp threat without the benefits. He’s came close to winning multiple comps and people have noticed. Unlike Drew, he doesn’t have a relationship with Kamu and Yash. For now, he only has the vets and FAP. I feel like he may actually have more of a plan than Drew does for later in the game. Yes, I know he seems like a lap dog to the vets but he’s way more vocal about keeping Mallory than Drew is over keeping Melody. Maybe I’m just being optimistic but I feel like Barrett may actually have a plan but wants to get rid of the good competitors he’s not aligned with first.
Drew will be the moat screwed after the eviction this week. Unlike Barrett, Drew has Kamu, Yash, Taylor and even Haley convinced he’s on their side. Unfortunately for him, they’ve been in the HOH room repeatedly saying “as long as we have Drew, we’re good.” He’s the main one pumping up Dee and Angela to make a spectacle at the veto ceremony. Maybe he knows he needs their targets to be a lot bigger so his becomes smaller.
Melody wants Kamu and Yash to leave. That’s pretty much her game and because she hasn’t had any power in the game, she just complains about it a lot. As I mentioned earlier, she spent quite a bit of time with Dee this weekend and this should have happened much sooner. She’s similar to Mallory in the way she thinks she has to wait for an HOH in order to make any moves in the game. When you’re not in charge, you need to be building relationships and Melody doesn’t branch out enough. Maybe this new alliance will light a fire under her and she’ll start doing more of it.
Mallory is similar to Melody except more people want to work with her. Taylor and Yash spent the weekend trying to reel her in to be with them. Unlike Melody, Mallory talks too much and is too honest. She knows Yash at least, is working with Kamu but that didn’t stop her from sitting up in the HOH room saying she wanted to work with them but she didn’t want to work with Kamu. Without realizing it, Mallory is the main person this week that could have screwed up the veto plan. (I get it, Mallory doesn’t exactly know the veto plan) She DIad know she was sent by her alliance to the HOH room to give Yash and Taylor a false sense of security. She needed to say she wouls vote to keep Haley this week. She didn’t and if Yash takes Haley off the block, this will be the main reason why.
I don’t know what the hells going to happen today but I can’t wait for it! Hopefully for Dee and Devens, Mallory and Melody will be so happy that Kamu went on the block, they won’t mind being left in the dark with the plan. Drew and Barrett had figured out something is coming they just don’t know exactly what it will be or how it will happen. Maybe this move will solidify the new Moshpit alliance. (I mean, for a couple of days at least)
Kamu wanted to do another tea party move this week against Dee. He doesn’t realize he’s going to get his chance at a time of her choosing and that time is TODAY. He plans to blow up her game and I don’t know if there’s anything he can say that will turn her alliance against her. There may be something I can’t remember but she spent the past few days covering her bases on things that could get her in trouble.
I know that Yash wants to out the fact that she offered him a bribe but she got ahead of it and her alliance knows. Yash also plans to say Dee bribed him to put up Melody and Mallory which isn’t true, according to Yash. Maybe they’ll believe him, maybe they won’t but I have a feeling Kamu going on the block will supersede all of it as far as Melody and Mallory are concerned.
Its also Angela’s birthday today. I don’t know if today will end up ranking up there with Keesha’s birthday or Rockstars “not on my daughter’s birthday” but we’ll see.
