Coronation Street Farewell: Mollie Gallagher Reveals Emotional Dilemma Behind Leaving Corrie for Stage Debut
Coronation Street fans were heartbroken when news broke that fan-favorite Mollie Gallagher would be stepping away from her role as the cobbles’ iconic alt-goth queen, Nina Lucas 
. Gallagher is making a grand leap to the stage, making her professional theatre debut as FBI agent Clarice Starling in a tour adaptation of The Silence of the Lambs.
However, the talented actress recently confessed that she originally tried to avoid saying goodbye to Weatherfield altogether.
The Double-Duty Dream and Imposter Syndrome
Reflecting on her decision, Gallagher revealed that she initially hoped to juggle both TV and theatre commitments:
“Originally I really wanted to find a way to do both,” Gallagher admitted. “It sounds ridiculous hearing it now, but I’d seen theatre runs where different actors take on different stints, but I realised pretty quickly that could never work… Being on Corrie has been my dream, but also you want to explore other things and to be offered something as great as this, and not be able to do it would be devastating.”
Transitioning from screen to stage for only her second professional acting job brought a wave of anxiety:

Navigating the Unknown: “There is a big feeling of imposter syndrome,” she told Radio Times. “I’ve not done professional theatre and I feel like I’m very much in the unknown…”

Finding Clarice: “Clarice has to be grounded… Luckily I got my big mirror out and I started doing the lines and I was like, ‘Oh, this is cool, she does sit in me.’”

The “Soap Bubble” Cast and Nina’s Ongoing Legacy
First announced in June, Gallagher’s final scenes as Nina are set to air at the end of August. A Coronation Street spokesperson praised her six-and-a-half-year run, wishing her success as she steps into the iconic role.
Crucially for devastated viewers, Gallagher confirmed that Nina will not be killed off, keeping the door open for a future return:

Protecting Her Identity: “I was really passionate about portraying this alternative character… I never wanted Nina to lose her goth look and who she is – I think the audience have always really appreciated that.”

A Soap Reunion On Stage: On tour, Gallagher is joined by EastEnders legend John Partridge and fellow Corrie / Emmerdale alum Oliver Farnworth: “They’re brilliant actors… It’s nice, because it’s this little soap bubble… They’ve been in the industry for years so it’s nice to learn from them and get some advice.”
