For Charity, the decision was a crushing blow. After everything she had endured, she had hoped that finally speaking out would lead to justice. Instead, she was left feeling as though Todd had managed to escape accountability once again.
Todd’s behavior had been growing increasingly disturbing for some time. What initially looked like nothing more than inappropriate harassment toward trainee doctor Jacob Sugden gradually developed into something much darker. Todd eventually discovered that Charity had deceived both Jacob and Sarah by agreeing to become their surrogate.
That secret gave Todd enormous power over Charity.
The doctor later discovered that the baby was not biologically Jacob and Sarah’s after all. The child had been conceived following Charity’s one-night stand with Ross Barton, and Todd quickly realized that the information could be used against her.
Rather than keeping what she knew to herself, Todd began blackmailing Charity. Every new revelation made Charity more frightened about what could happen if the truth became public.
Things then took an even more sinister turn when Todd attempted to kiss Charity. Charity rejected her, making it clear that she wanted nothing to do with the unwanted attention. But Todd’s behavior did not stop there.
Later, while Charity was intoxicated and asleep on the sofa, Todd sexually assaulted her.
The horrific incident left Charity devastated and struggling to process what had happened. Todd eventually left the village and moved to Sheffield, seemingly hoping that she could escape the consequences of her actions and begin again somewhere else.
But Charity was no longer prepared to remain silent.
She finally opened up to her husband, Mackenzie Boyd, explaining what Todd had done. Mackenzie promised that he would stand beside her and support her through the ordeal, even as Charity struggled with the emotional consequences of the abuse.
Meanwhile, Vanessa Woodfield became determined to investigate Todd’s past. She headed to Hotton General Hospital hoping to uncover information about the doctor’s professional history and discover whether Charity was the only person who had suffered because of Todd.
At first, Vanessa hit a wall.
The hospital’s HR representative explained that she could not reveal the identity of anyone who had previously complained about Todd. However, she appeared to understand the seriousness of what Vanessa was investigating.
In a quiet but significant move, the HR worker printed a list of names and deliberately left it somewhere Vanessa could access it.
That decision changed everything.
Vanessa eventually tracked down Helen, and when Charity learned what was happening, the two women were taken into a private room by an extremely nervous Helen. It was there that Helen finally revealed the truth.
Todd had assaulted her too.
The revelation confirmed Charity’s fears that Todd’s behavior was not an isolated incident. There were other victims, other stories and potentially other people who had been too frightened to come forward.
Helen had already been reported to the authorities before she had the opportunity to tell her own story, but she remained deeply uncertain about becoming involved with the police. For her, the trauma was something she desperately wanted to leave behind.
Charity tried to convince her otherwise.
She argued that if the two women worked together, they might finally be able to stop Todd from hurting someone else. Charity believed that speaking out could give them the justice they had both been denied.
Helen, however, was not ready to take that step.
She made it clear that she did not want to make a police report. Instead, she wanted to move forward, rebuild her life and put the nightmare behind her. She even encouraged Charity to do the same.
Despite the disappointment, Charity eventually tried to follow that advice.
She returned to the support group she had previously abandoned, attempting to deal with the trauma rather than allowing it to consume her. For a while, it appeared that Charity might finally be able to begin healing.
Then Todd returned.
On Thursday, August 6, Todd unexpectedly appeared at Charity’s home after bringing a drunk Manpreet Sharma back to the village. Her sudden arrival immediately raised questions about why she had returned and what she intended to do next.
Given everything that had happened, Charity had every reason to be terrified.
And with Todd’s final scenes scheduled for Sunday, August 9, viewers know that the story is heading toward a dramatic and potentially deadly conclusion.
The biggest mystery now concerns exactly who will bring Todd’s reign of terror to an end.
One popular theory among fans points toward newcomer Serena Sugden. Some viewers believe Serena could ultimately attack Todd in an attempt to protect Charity. The theory has gained attention because Charity had previously spoken to Serena about the blackmail and assault when the two women first crossed paths.

Elsewhere in Emmerdale, another complicated family relationship is beginning to develop.
Lewis Barton, played by Bradley Riches, has quickly become a popular presence since his arrival. His complicated relationship with his father Kev has gradually become one of the more emotional stories surrounding the younger character.
Lewis has struggled with whether he should allow Kev into his life, particularly because of doubts about whether his father can really be a positive influence. Yet despite all their difficulties, father and son have slowly begun forming a genuine connection.
Riches has expressed his excitement about seeing the relationship develop, explaining that there have been plenty of highs and lows because of the obstacles surrounding Kev.
Lewis, however, is old enough to make his own decisions.
Although father and son have plenty in common, they are also very different people. Their personalities do not always match, but there are enough similarities between them to create the possibility of a powerful father-son bond.
Riches believes the pair could eventually become an iconic duo.
That relationship will take another important step when Lewis asks Kev to teach him how to ride a bike. It sounds like a simple father-son moment, but there is an amusing problem waiting for them.
Kev cannot ride a bike either.
Determined to do the right thing and be there for his son, Kev attempts to help despite having no idea what he is doing. He eventually falls off and tries not to admit that he cannot actually ride.
Beneath the comedy, however, the moment carries a much deeper meaning.
Neither father nor son ever had someone around to teach them. Both have experienced difficult childhoods and have often felt like outsiders. Their inability to ride a bike becomes another unexpected thing they can share.
For Lewis, it could be proof that his father is willing to make an effort, even when he does not have all the answers.
Meanwhile, Dylan Penders and April Windsor are attempting to rebuild their lives after an extraordinarily traumatic period.
The chaos surrounding Ray and Celia may have ended, but the emotional scars remain. Dylan, April and Bear were all caught up in Ray’s human trafficking operation, and the experience left each of them struggling with memories they cannot simply erase.
The situation reached a horrifying climax when Ray confronted Paddy at his home after Bear managed to escape. Ray attempted to kill Paddy, but Bear arrived and strangled Ray to death.
Afterward, Paddy and Dylan helped conceal Ray’s body.
Eventually, the truth came to light when Ray’s body was discovered in the back of Jai Sharma’s van. The discovery put the three men in serious danger of losing their freedom, despite the fact that they had originally been victims of Ray’s criminal operation.
Paddy ultimately received a suspended sentence, while Bear and Dylan were cleared.
But being cleared in court did not mean they were suddenly free from the trauma.
Bear, in particular, continues to struggle with anything that reminds him of the forced labor he endured. When he discovered that Caleb was involved in selling counterfeit goods, it immediately brought back memories of the time he had effectively been forced to work as a slave on the farm.
Bear warned Caleb that he needed to cut ties with the trafficking operation before the situation became even more dangerous.
Dylan is also finding it increasingly difficult to move on. He eventually admits to April that he is struggling to cope with everything that happened.
April encourages him to speak to a counselor, although Dylan initially hesitates.
It is ultimately Bear who helps change his mind.
After sharing his own experience and encouraging Dylan to seek professional support, Bear manages to convince him that asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
As Emmerdale heads into another dramatic week, Charity’s battle with Todd is approaching its explosive conclusion, while Sarah could find herself caught in the fallout of the confrontation. With Todd’s final scenes imminent, viewers should prepare for secrets, accusations and potentially devastating consequences.
And as one storyline races toward a deadly climax, Lewis and Kev are slowly building something neither of them expected: a real father-son relationship.
For Dylan, April and Bear, meanwhile, the fight is no longer about surviving Ray’s crimes. It is about learning how to live with what happened afterward.
