Mackenzie Boyd has been holding it together by a thread. The revelation that Leyla isn’t who he thought she was — that Charity’s “surrogacy” for Sarah Sugden was actually a cover story for a secret she’d been carrying since a one-night encounter with Ross Barton — finally snaps that thread completely.

And Ross ends up on the wrong side of a barn mezzanine.

The Lie That Was Always Going to Explode

For months, the village accepted the story: Charity had carried a baby for Sarah. Heartwarming, complicated, but ultimately a selfless act. He invites Ross to help with work on the farm. It doesn’t stay professional for long. On the barn mezzanine, emotions detonate — and Mack pushes Ross over the edge. Ross hits the ground critically injured. The village is about to feel the shockwaves.

Charity’s Arrest

While Mack is falling apart in a barn, Charity is facing the law.

Her decision to conceal Leyla’s true parentage from Sarah — from everyone — is now under police scrutiny. The intentions behind it don’t matter much to a duty of disclosure. What matters is what she hid, and for how long.

The arrest opens up the harder questions this storyline has been building toward: at what point does protecting someone you love become a lie that causes them greater harm? Charity believed she was shielding Sarah from pain. The law, and soon Sarah herself, will have a very different perspective.

Chas in the Middle, Noah on His Way Out

Chas has been Charity’s co-conspirator throughout — aware of Mack’s knowledge of Ross’s connection to Leyla, and working alongside her sister to keep the truth away from Sarah. Every conversation in that house has been a performance. Every moment with Sarah, a careful calculation.

It’s exhausting. And it’s about to collapse.

Complicating things further: Noah is quietly considering leaving the country for a fresh start. He has no idea what’s happening around him — the secret, the arrest, the man his stepfather just pushed off a building. His potential departure captures exactly what prolonged deception does to a family: it leaves people making life decisions based on a version of reality that doesn’t exist.

DS Reid turns up at Vanessa Woodfield’s door asking for her cooperation in an investigation tied to Dr. Todd. Vanessa, already trying to process what Todd did and what she didn’t see, is blindsided.

Her involvement knots her story even tighter into Charity’s — two women, connected through Todd’s actions, now navigating the legal and emotional aftermath from different angles.

What’s Coming

Ross is critically injured. Charity is under arrest. Chas is holding secrets that are disintegrating in real time. Vanessa is caught in a police investigation she didn’t ask for. And Mack and Charity — still together, technically — have a mountain of unprocessed damage between them that forgiveness alone won’t fix.

The coming weeks will test whether the Dingle family can survive what honesty, finally arriving too late, leaves in its wake.
